Simran Ghatrora is a lawyer member of The Criminal Law Team.
Simran works with senior and associate co-counsel collaboratively and has extensive experience with legal research, discovery and trial preparation. Simran has assisted counsel on all criminal matters such as criminal negligence causing death, offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, first-degree murder and sexual assault trials. Simran has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice in Brampton and the surrounding GTA area.
Simran accepts legal aid certificates and is passionate about providing fair and affordable access to justice for those charged with criminal offences. Furthermore, Simran has a keen interest in mental health law and has observed hearings at the Ontario Review Board at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. Simran recently assisted counsel in a 6-week murder trial relating to charges pertaining to the defence of not criminally responsible (NCR) under s.16 of the Criminal Code.
Simran also accepts clients charged with driving offences under the Highway Traffic Act (Ontario)
Background
Simran graduated from the Law Practice Program at Ryerson University in Toronto. Prior to this, he obtained his law degree (first-class) from the University of Buckingham in England. In law school, Simran was the Public Relations Officer for the Student Law Society, an Editor for the Student Law Review journal and participated in various negotiations, moots, advocacy and drafting workshops led by Jonathan Kirk, QC. Simran previously completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from York University and a Police Foundations diploma from Sheridan College.
Simran was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2020 and is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
